DELTA STATE 2023
The race for who occupies the Governorship seat in Delta state has begun. Among the three senatorial Districts in the state, Delta Central and South are in the race to assume the turn while the north still have till 2023 to finish its eight years reign, therefore cannot agitate. Currently, serious argument is ongoing as to which section of the state should produce the next Governor to succeed Senator lfeanyi Okowa come 2023. Delta Central have already allocated the position to itself on the pretext that it is next in line going by the zoning arrangement which allows the governorship position to rotate among the three senatorial districts of Delta Central, South and North. Although the 2023 Delta State Governorship Election is not due anytime soon, issues surrounding zoning formula within the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have taken centre stage with early birds in the gubernatorial race intensifying consultative meetings as new political alignments take shape.
Now that the zoning has gone round the three senatorial districts, some politicians want to come up with the argument that by 2023, the zoning would have completed it’s full cycle and can restart from any senatorial district rather than Delta Central.
The drum to front the Governorship Election by the Ijaw People is sounding loud and clear to the ears of all.
However, the indisputable fight of Political Struggle that awaits the ijaws in the state like, the Secret Zoning of PDP, The Okowa Hearted Man and The APC agenda, I can categorically say the Aspiration of Ijaw Man about the sit may fall in the Evil days of the state if vulnerable cautions is not taken into consideration. The Urhobo nation and Ijaw Nation are so much eager to succeed Okowa but the truth of the matter is, Urhobo nation cannot give their said Zoning right to the ijaws irrespective of Ethnic brotherhood. What's to be avoid before the Agenda of Ijaw Man is to be implemented? The secret behind the state Zoning is so unfortunate that even some Political godfather's don't know what to do? What if Governor Okowa's mind is not for the Ijaw's Agenda?
I have followed the 2023 governorship succession array of the State, nay Delta Central senatorial zone, with renewed enthusiasm over the past weeks now. While some people may feel it’s too early for such heat because of the propensity of same to distract an incumbent, the truth is, the politics of succession is a different ball game from that of continuity. Even when the subject of party continuity remains a key factor for all those involved, the battle to win a party’s ticket often assumes gladiatorial dimensions for those involved.
What's to be done to avoid this Scuffle in the state?
